Getting the Party Started 24th July at 11.00am

Wells City Band are delighted to be starting up the programme of music on the Cathedral Green at 11.00am as part of the Wake Up Wells Community Day: the Big Picnic.

Wells City Band has been locked down during the pandemic and have only recently been allowed to rehearse; – socially distanced of course, with covers over the end of our instruments and adhering to all Covid regulations. So it will be super special to play for you all on the Cathedral Green.

Come into Wells between 11am and 4pm on Saturday 24th July and enjoy a village fete, entertainment, music, food and a range of information stalls, have-a-go experiences.

As well as Wells City Band there will be performances on the Green from the Glastonbury Male Voice Choir, ZZ Birmingham Blues Band, THE PORTRAITS and Wells Jazz Collective. Inside the Cathedral there will be music from Somerset Chamber Choir, Wells Amateur Bellringing Society, Drum Together. Plus much more and something for everyone.

Why not bring a picnic and make an afternoon of it?

The band will also be manning an information stall so pop along and have a chat with us!

This whole event has been organised by Wells Cathedral, Bishop’s Palace, the Project Factory, Rotary Club of Wells and Fresh and Good to bring you a special day in celebration of the relaxation of lockdown regulations.

CLOCK  IN A BOX!

CAN YOU SPARE A MINUTE FOR YOUR LOCAL BRASS BAND?

For over 180 years, the “Wells City Band” have played for the people of Wells in times of sadness and joy.

For the past 5 months the band’s players have continued practicing at home, sharing in the recent Thursday thanks for the NHS and also playing individually for the V.E. Day Commemorations.

Unfortunately, because of the Covid-19 restrictions ,all the band’s practices and bookings have been cancelled and no events have been held during the spring or summer.

In order to keep the band going we need your support.

Please could you support us by buying a minute of time at the cost of £5?  With the help of Marc Fisher (The Gallery), we have wound a clock that will be placed in a box and which will eventually stop. The time will be given to us by Marc Fisher at the end of August. If you guess the right time or near to the time ,then you would win one of these these wonderful prizes!

First Prize- £200
